Said Iqbal, a charismatic Indonesian trade union leader, President of Konfederasi Serikat Pekerja Indonesia (KSPI) and President of Federasi Serikat Pekerja Metal Indonesia (FSPMI), won the Febe Elisabeth Velasquez prize, an international award that recognises those who take personal risks to defend trade union rights. The Febe Elisabeth Velasquez Trade Union Award is organised every two years by Dutch trade union the FNV and is named after an El Salvadorean union leader murdered in 1989.
The Febe Elisabeth Velasquez awarded to Said Iqbal for his persistent struggle and admiration for trade union and workers rights, decent work and decent living of all workers in Indonesia.
He received this award during the Congress of the FNV Mondiaal on 15 May 2013 in Netherlands.
